About Us

Fish On Colorado was started to provide more people the experience of being out in nature, in some of the most beautiful places in Colorado while enjoying a tug on the other end of a fly line.

Since he was a child fishing with his father on Lake Erie, the founder, Jeff Powles has loved fishing.  Then, In 1998 Jeff tied on his first fly in the Rocky Mountains and was hooked on this new way of fishing.  He started Fish On Colorado as a way to share his love of fly fishing and nature with others.

The main goal of Fish On Colorado is to give the average person an affordable opportunity to experience the joy of fooling a wild trout to devour a fly in the beautiful wilderness of Colorado. That is why we offer the best-priced lessons and professional guide services on the Colorado river!

“Jeff, really enjoyed the day on the river.  Thanks for your help.  We are going to definitely think about getting our boys out with you.  And I’ll definitely give out your name for fishing.”

“Just a quick note to let you know we couldn’t have been more pleased (well maybe if we had a caught few more fish, but oh well…) with Dennis yesterday as our guide.  He was extremely knowledgeable, a great teacher, patient and very helpful.  Throw in two bald eagles and several goose families and it was a sun and fun-filled float day on the river.

Cast, mend, drift, mend again, drift some more then repeat.  We must have casted a thousand times :) Dennis taught us well!

You’ve got one great guide in Dennis/Gus!”

Bob

“I just had the pleasure of floating the Colorado River (Pump House to Radium) with Fish On Colorado Owner, Jeff Powles and another of his FOC guides, Calvin; I can’t recommend Fish On Colorado highly enough!

Despite the low flows and hot July conditions, we managed to move and/or net several trout. Their customer care was exemplary, as was their “bedside manner” with a guy (me) who, although an experienced fly fisherman, still had a lot to learn from these experts.

I was also impressed with their commitment to both my safety as well as that of the trout we were trying to catch. As soon as the water hit the temperature at which trout become dangerously distressed from a fight, Jeff and Calvin politely and respectfully ended the fishing for the day. For the remaining mile or so of the float, we kicked back, ate lunch, had a cold one, enjoyed the breathtaking Colorado River setting and shared fishing stories.

It was a beautiful Colorado summer day on a stunning stretch of an iconic river with two excellent guides. What could be better?

Thanks Fish On Colorado! I’ll definitely be back on the water with you soon!”
